A local program changed what was possible for me as a child. I later returned to help govern it, and I am still working on how Longmont understands the next technological change.
I Have a Dream
I joined one of the earliest “I Have a Dream” classes in Boulder County after a childhood marked by housing instability, a group-home placement, and repeated school changes. The program’s coordinators kept showing up. A teenage internship they helped arrange became my first professional IT job.
I later returned as a volunteer, mentor, sponsor, donor, board member, secretary, and Board Chair. I now use former Board Chair because the current roster names a successor.
2003 · civic participation
At 21, I ran in Ward III and received 1,331 votes, or 28.24 percent, against incumbent Marty Block. I lost, but the race taught me how different public responsibility feels from arguing about policy from the sidelines.
The positions I ran on at 21 are part of that history, not a current platform.
2020 · childhood cancer research
During the pandemic, I moved a planned head-shave fundraiser online and raised $1,679 against a $500 goal for childhood cancer research.
2025–present · co-founder
My wife, Emily, and I founded Longmont NextWave to help our community understand applied AI through education and literacy, economic resilience, and data dignity. We are not selling automatic optimism or automatic fear. A community needs enough fluency to decide how the gains, costs, and power of automation should be shared.
